Creative Process
“In all my art pieces I try to capture a glimpse of the beauty that nature has to offer”
Marketa Adamek Bastos is a Lisbon based Swedish ceramic artist. But she prefers to be called a global nomad due to her roaming lifestyle. Outside of Marketa’s studio there is always a green garden. She likes to start her creative process with a nature walk, and when something interesting catches her eye she brings it back to her atelier. She works with high fire stoneware clay, which she rolls into slabs and prints her leaves on and then shapes into bowls and plates. Her vases are a combination of wheel thrown and coiling work. Some vases are altered or carved. All of Marketa’s pieces are covered in exuberant colored glazes. She enjoys creating her own unique glazes from minerals, oxides and wood ash. Each piece is fired in an electrical kiln to cone 8 or 9. Whenever possible she also fires in a wood kiln. Each piece will be refired until a desired result is achieved. Due to rising environmental concerns, Marketa works with a small production based on careful planning and understanding of the raw materials to reduce waste and mishaps.
